Overview
If you are recording digitally and seeking mix-ready analog tones, then this handy module is one that belongs in your tool box. SUPER FILTER mk2 combines the best features from our original SUPER FILTER and FET FILTER modules into one new super powered module. There is a musical set of high and low pass filters, a console-style midrange EQ, and a meticulously tweaked multi-stage saturation circuit designed to get you "there" faster - at the press of a button.
Inspired By the Best of Tape
Analog tape allows us to achieve a smooth top end, and huge and punchy bottom end just by virtue of hitting the record button. However, this pleasing playback is the result of four sonic ingredients that are unfortunately missing from our DAWs:
- A natural subsonic roll-off that tightens up the bottom end
- Tape head bump in the 30-70 Hz range that enhances the size of drums and bass
- Transient clipping that adds density and volume
- Even and odd order harmonics generated by the record and playback process that yields a euphonic richness
SUPER FILTER mk2 checks the boxes for all four missing ingredients.
Features
HPF & LPF
One of the easiest and often overlooked ways of getting your tracks to better fit in the mix is to filter out the garbage that is causing instruments to fight for the same sonic space and thus robbing your tracks of clarity - the subsonic mud and high frequency hash, especially. Cutting unnecessary bottom end on instruments that you don't intend to occupy the lower octaves is a very effective way to achieve a clear and powerful bass and kick sounds in your mixes. Cutting extreme top end on sounds that will mostly occupy the midrange softens and rounds tones, while creating space in a mix for airy vocals, cymbals, and synths.
SUPER FILTER mk2 features four musically tuned high pass filter frequencies (23, 50, 80, 120 Hz), and the same silky VINTAGE low pass filter employed in the Silver Bullet and Chroma. The 23 Hz setting features a tape-like resonant bump at 45 Hz, drawing direct inspiration from our cherished MCI JH-110A 8-track deck.
Midrange EQ
Never underestimate the power of a simple mid cut or boost while tracking to give your tracks the clarity they need. We have included the same variable console-style midrange EQ circuit we used in FET Filter. A set of jumpers set the boost/cut frequency for the midrange EQ, and an onboard trimpot sets the amount of boost or cut. Lifting jumper J7 bypasses this circuit.

- Tight and Clean: HPF = 23 Hz, LPF = BYP, SAT = BYP
- Kick / Snare / Toms: HPF = 23 Hz, LPF = IN, SAT = IN
- Drum Overheads: HPF = 50 Hz, LPF = BYP, SAT = IN
- Electric Guitars: HPF = 80 Hz, LPF = IN, SAT = IN
- Vocals / Acoustic Guitars: HPF = 120 Hz, LPF = BYP, SAT = BYP
- General Purpose Lo-Cut: HPF = 50 Hz, LPF = BYP, SAT = BYP
Supercharge Chroma
When installed in Chroma the SUPER FILTER mk2 module adds serious tone-shaping capability by enabling its filters to have variable control via Chroma's C-MIX knob. The SUPER FILTER mk2 module expands Chroma's simple tone shaping features with variable low shelving EQ and/or variable midrange boost/cut EQ. The HPF will turn over to roll-off completely when C-MIX is all the way up (100 hash mark).

What is Colour

The Colour platform consists of Colour modules and hosts like Chroma and the DIY Recording Equipment Colour Palette. Colour modules are ultra-compact, swappable analog circuit blocks that snap into Chroma and impart various types of analog color such as distortion, saturation, compression, EQ, and even echo. Chroma provides drive and wet/dry mix controls, power, and support circuitry for one module.
The Colour Palette is a 3-slot host available as a 500 Series unit from DIY Recording Equipment. In the near future there will be rackmount version of the Colour Palette as well.

The Colour platform consists of Colours and hosts. Colours are ultra-compact, swappable analog circuit blocks that snap into the host, and impart various types of analog color such as distortion, saturation, compression, EQ, and even echo.
COLOUR HOSTS
Proucts like Silver Bullet mk2, Chroma, Chroma+, or Mister Focus can all host Colour modules. The host device provides level controls, power, and support circuitry for one or two Colour modules.
C-DRV knob simultaneously allows you to adjust the amount of input gain and output attenuation for intuitive level control.
C-MIX knob allow you to blend the smoothly dry and processed signals.
Colour modules can also be used various rackmount and 500 series gear from other manufacturers like DIY Recording Equipment.
BUILD YOUR DREAM CHANNEL
Choose from our growing list of Colour module options to customize compatible Louder Than Liftoff products. There are one or two analog plugin slots you can use to build your dream channel. You can also install any of the Colour modules from DIY Recording Equipment. This is a platform that adapts to the needs of your studio.
Disconnect power, remove the 500 Series module or cover, install the Colour Modules of your choice, and power back on.

COMPATIBILITY
Colour Modules are compatible with Silver Bullet m2, Chroma 500 Series, Chroma+, and Mister Focus products.
They are also compatible with host products from DIY Recording Equipment.
PREMIUM COMPONENTS & BUILD QUALITY
We chose every component in our Colour modules by ear for maximum mojo and its sonic synergy with the rest of the circuit. Our meticulous development process involved both empirical measurement and real-world studio use to validate the design. We also leveraged what we learned designing and building our other products. In this design you will find high end parts from Nichicon, Panasonic, Vishay, Susumu, Wima, and TI. All audio path resistors are 0.5% or 0.1% thin film types for low distortion and noise. Where applicable, some modules features custom American wound transformers and our very own discrete op amp. Our PCBs use high temperature Tg 170 material for long-term reliability. The entire assembly is RoHS compliant (lead free).
